The African Development Bank Selects a Canadian Franchise Consultants Team
Promoting Franchising to reduce poverty
Mississauga, On. February 6, 2002. — Northern Lights Franchise Consultants Corp., Canada’s premier management consultants firm specializing in franchising, has been selected by the African Development Bank Group to undertake a systematic and analytical review of the franchising industry in Africa, and propose a strategy for the Bank to develop the private sector. In addition, a Symposium, a first-ever showcase of franchising in Africa, will be held in May in Johannesburg, South Africa.
The Canadian experts team will be made up of Mr. J. Perry Maisonneuve, Principal of Northern Lights Franchise Consultants Corp. from Mississauga, ON. Mr. Michel Gagnon, President of Davier Franchise Consultants, from Montreal, Dr. Eckhard Siggel, Economist at Concordia University in Montreal, Mr. John Sotos, a Franchise Lawyer from Toronto, and Mr. Denis Blanchard, Director of Northern Lights Franchise Consultants in Quebec City. The team will assist the Bank in its objectives to contribute to the economic and social development of the African countries.
The goals of the Study are as follows:
- Investigate the present level of franchising development in Africa;
- Review the strengths and weakness of the franchising sector;
- Demonstrate the value of franchising development for promoting entrepreneurship;
- Discover the existing legal and regulatory framework and practice;
- Bringing in international players for franchising in Africa;
- To develop a strategy for the Bank in order to foster franchising development programs.
Poverty reduction is the overarching objective of the Bank’s operations.
Business Opportunities for Canadian franchisors
The study, conducted by Northern Lights Franchise Consultants Corp., will also be profitable to Canadian and American franchisors wishing to develop their franchise network in Africa. According to Mr. J. Perry Maisonneuve, principal of Northern Lights Franchise Consultants Corp. and team leader of the project " Thanks to the will of the African Development Bank Group, the Canadian Government, and the Donors, franchising will develop in a very important way during the next decade. Because of the establishment of franchising development programs, Africa will experience a Boom similar to the Asian and European countries, and the promotion of Canadian franchisors, colleagues members of the Canadian Franchise association, will be favored because of our preferred position."

In May, 2002, Northern Lights was represented at the Franchise Africa Symposium, where Perry Maisonneuve and other members of the African Development Bank research team presented their preliminary findings to members of the franchise industry worldwide.
