International Transactions

Our firm supports the process of international franchise expansion in one of two ways:

1) Importing Franchise Systems to Canada: Wherein our firm assists international franchise systems to expand to Canada.

2) Master Franchisee Representation: Wherein our firm represents entrepreneurs or other business parties to search for, qualify and secure franchise rights from a North American franchise system.

Whether our firm represents an international franchisor or a master franchisee candidate, the process for each simply represents “two halves of the same coin”. Therefore, the process of importing or exporting a franchise system to a given country or region involves three stages:

1. the Search and Identification Stage;
2. the Pre-Contractual Stage; and
3. the Prototype Stage.

Once the Prototype Stage is successfully completed, franchise system development and expansion occurs in a similar fashion to that of any normal franchise system. It is important for participants in international franchising to have an understanding of this process in order to increase the probability of achieving a mutually desirable outcome.
